Tesamorelin is a synthetic peptide that belongs to the growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) family. Its sequence corresponds to the fully active 44-amino-acid form of human GHRH, with a single structural modification: the addition of a trans-3-hexenoyl group at the N-terminus. That modification is not found in the naturally occurring hormone and was introduced deliberately during development to improve stability against enzymatic degradation. The compound is therefore best described as a stabilized analogue rather than a naturally occurring peptide.
The native hormone is produced in the hypothalamus and acts on the anterior pituitary. Binding of GHRH to its receptor stimulates synthesis and release of growth hormone into circulation. Because the analogue retains the receptor-binding region of the parent sequence, it engages the same receptor and triggers the same downstream signaling. The result is increased growth hormone secretion from pituitary cells, which in turn influences hepatic production of insulin-like growth factor 1. This axis is the basis for the compound's measured biological effects.
Lyophilized material is typically held under refrigeration between two and eight degrees Celsius, shielded from light and ambient moisture. Peptides of this size adsorb to glass and plastic, so working procedures often call for low-binding containers and as few transfers as possible. Absorbed water during weighing shifts the apparent mass of a sample, and controlling room humidity reduces that source of error. Once dissolved, solutions are kept cold and used within the interval printed on the accompanying label or certificate. Degradation accelerates markedly in dilute aqueous form.
Identity and purity are judged through a combination of chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques. Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography separates the intact peptide from truncated, oxidized, and deamidated variants, and the resulting peak-area percentages yield a purity figure. Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry confirms the expected molecular mass and can expose unanticipated modifications. Amino acid analysis and peptide mapping support sequence fidelity, while water content, pH, sterility, and bacterial endotoxin testing describe the physical and microbiological attributes of a finished lot.

Tesamorelin is a synthetic analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone, a peptide hormone produced by the hypothalamus. The molecule retains the 44-amino-acid sequence of human GHRH and carries a trans-3-hexenoyl modification at its N-terminus. This modification increases resistance to enzymatic degradation and extends the peptide's functional stability relative to native GHRH. The compound is supplied as a lyophilized powder for reconstitution and subcutaneous administration in clinical settings. Its development code was TH9507, and it belongs to the GHRH analog class. It is not a growth hormone product; instead, it acts upstream to stimulate endogenous growth hormone release.
Clinical interest in tesamorelin arose from the need to address visceral adiposity in people living with HIV. Antiretroviral therapy improved survival but was associated in some patients with central fat accumulation, altered lipid profiles, and metabolic complications. This condition, often called HIV-associated lipodystrophy, involves excess visceral adipose tissue that is difficult to manage through diet and exercise alone. Investigators evaluated tesamorelin because GHRH analogs can stimulate growth hormone secretion and influence fat distribution without direct liposuction or invasive procedures.

Oxidation and reduction reactions are not common in organic chemistry as few organic molecules can act as oxidizing or reducing agents. Iron(II), on the other hand, can easily be oxidized to iron(III). This functionality is used in cytochromes, which function as electron-transfer vectors. The presence of the metal ion allows metalloenzymes to perform functions such as redox reactions that cannot easily be performed by the limited set of functional groups found in amino acids. The iron atom in most cytochromes is contained in a heme group. The differences between those cytochromes lies in the different side-chains. For instance cytochrome a has a heme a prosthetic group and cytochrome b has a heme b prosthetic group. These differences result in different Fe2+/Fe3+ redox potentials such that various cytochromes are involved in the mitochondrial electron transport chain. Cytochrome P450 enzymes perform the function of inserting an oxygen atom into a C−H bond, an oxidation reaction.
== Etymology == BmK is the abbreviation for Buthus martensi Karsch, an old name for the scorpion that is the source of BmKAEP; AEP is an abbreviation for anti-epilepsy peptide. At the NCBI Protein Database, the full name of this peptide is listed as "Toxin BmKAEP".
Use of lithium for mental disorders was re-established (on a different theoretical basis) in 1948 by John Cade in Australia. Lithium carbonate is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines, and is available as a generic medication. In 2023, it was the 187th most commonly prescribed medication in the United States, with more than 2 million prescriptions. It appears to be underused in older people, and in certain countries, for reasons including patients' negative beliefs about lithium.

They set out to determine whether or not the 13-minute isotope was indeed an isotope of protactinium. Between 1934 and 1938, Hahn, Meitner and Strassmann found a great number of radioactive transmutation products, all of which they regarded as transuranic. At that time, the existence of actinides was not yet established, and uranium was wrongly believed to be a group 6 element similar to tungsten. It followed that the first transuranic elements would be similar to group 7 to 10 elements, i.e. rhenium and platinoids. They established the presence of multiple isotopes of at least four such elements, and (mistakenly) identified them as elements with atomic numbers 93 through 96. They were the first scientists to measure the 23-minute half-life of uranium-239 and to establish chemically that it was an isotope of uranium, but were unable to continue this work to its logical conclusion and identify the real element 93. They identified ten different half-lives, with varying degrees of certainty. To account for them, Meitner had to hypothesise a new class of reaction and the alpha decay of uranium, neither of which had ever been reported before, and for which physical evidence was lacking. Hahn and Strassmann refined their chemical procedures, while Meitner devised new experiments to shine more light on the reaction processes.
A systemic disease is one that affects a number of organs and tissues, or affects the body as a whole. It differs from a localized disease, which is a disease affecting only part of the body (e.g., a mouth ulcer).
Biodistribution of 14C-labelled docetaxel in three patients showed the bulk of the drug to be metabolised and excreted in bile to the faeces. Of the radioactively labelled docetaxel administered, 80% was eliminated to the faeces with 5% in the urine over seven days, an indication that urinary excretion of docetaxel is minimal. Saliva contributed minimal excretion and no excretion was detected through pulmonary means. The terminal half-life of docetaxel was determined as approximately 86 hours, through prolonged plasma sampling, contrary to the clinically stated terminal half-life of 10–18 hours.

A radioligand is a microscopic particle which consists of a therapeutic radioactive isotope and the cell-targeting compound — the ligand. The ligand is the target binding site; it may be on the surface of the targeted cancer cell for therapeutic purposes. Radioisotopes can occur naturally or be synthesized and produced in a cyclotron/nuclear reactor. Types of radioisotopes include Y-90, H-3, C-11, Lu-177, Ac-225, Ra-223, In-111, I-131, and I-125. Thus, radioligands must be produced in special nuclear reactors for the radioisotope to remain stable. Radioligands can be used to analyze/characterize receptors, to perform binding assays, to help in diagnostic imaging, and to provide targeted cancer therapy. Radiation is a novel method of treating cancer and is effective in short distances along with being unique/personalizable and causing minimal harm to normal surrounding cells. Furthermore, radioligand binding can provide information about receptor-ligand interactions in vitro and in vivo. Choosing the right radioligand for the desired application is important. The radioligand must be radiochemically pure, stable, and demonstrate a high degree of selectivity, and high affinity for their target.

== Discovery == Notch was discovered in a mutant Drosophila in March 1913 in the lab of Thomas Hunt Morgan. This mutant emerged after several generations of crossing out and back-crossing beaded winged flies with wild type flies and was first characterized by John S. Dexter. The most frequently observed phenotype in Notch mutant flies is the appearance of a concave serration at the most distal end of the wings, for which the gene is named, accompanied by the absence of marginal bristles. This mutant was found to be a sex-linked dominant on the X chromosome that could only be observed in heterozygous females as it was lethal in males and homozygous females. The first Notch allele was established in 1917 by Charles William Metz and Calvin Bridges. In the late 1930s, studies of fly embryogenesis done by Donald F. Poulson provided the first indication of Notch's role in development. Notch mutant males exhibited a lack of the inner germ layers, the endoderm and mesoderm, that resulted in failure to undergo later morphogenesis embryonic lethality. Later studies in early Drosophila neurogenesis provided some of the first indications of Notch's roll in cell-cell signaling, as the nervous system in Notch mutants was developed by sacrificing hypodermal cells. Starting in the 1980s researchers began to gain further insights into Notch function through genetic and molecular experiments.

It shares the 44-residue sequence of human GHRH but carries an added trans-3-hexenoyl group at its N-terminus. That addition does not occur in the natural hormone and serves mainly to resist enzymatic breakdown. The receptor target and signaling pathway remain the same.
It binds the growth hormone-releasing hormone receptor on anterior pituitary cells. Activation of that receptor promotes synthesis and release of growth hormone. The effect propagates through the growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor 1 axis.
Native GHRH is cleared quickly by peptidases, which limits how long it can stimulate its receptor. The added group hinders one of the primary cleavage enzymes. The practical consequence is a longer period of receptor activity per dose.
Reconstituted solutions are kept cold and used within the period stated on the label or certificate. Repeated warming and cooling cycles should be avoided because they encourage aggregation and gradual loss of potency.
